The IJzeren Man area with its heathland, drifting sand, marsh, ponds, woodland, meadows, and streams is a showcase of the various landscapes in KempenBroek. During this short blue hiking route, you hike along ponds and through the woodland.

Extensive description Close

The area is located southwest of Weert and is approximately 100 hectares in size. It is named after the steam-powered, iron dredging machine on rails that was used from 1910 to 1913 to extract sand. The Grote IJzeren Man and the Kleine IJzeren Man are ponds that remained after the sand extraction. The Zwanenven, Geurtsven, and Eendenven are typical heathland ponds found in the lower parts of this gently rolling continental dune landscape.

There is plenty to experience in the IJzeren Man area; it is also the gateway to the KempenBroek. With several attractions in one area, young and old can easily fill a day out. The Natuur- en Milieucentrum De IJzeren Man is highly recommended. You can discover nature together by visiting the exhibition, the garden, or by getting hands-on at the activity field.
