Iron Man and Laurabossen - black - 2,8 km
The IJzeren Man area with its heathland, drifting sand, marsh, ponds, woodland, meadows and streams is a showcase of the varied landscapes in KempenBroek. This black route, the Allemanspad, is a fully accessible wheelchair path!
Extensive description CloseYou will pass various ponds, through diverse nature with woodland and heathland, and along the large IJzeren Man pond. The hiking area is located southwest of Weert and covers approximately 100 hectares. It is named after the steam-powered, iron dredging machine on rails that was used from 1910 to 1913 to extract sand. The Grote IJzeren Man and the Kleine IJzeren Man are ponds that remained after the sand extraction. The Zwanenven, Geurtsven, and Eendenven are typical heathland ponds located in the lower parts of this gently rolling continental dune landscape.
There is plenty to experience in the IJzeren Man area; it is also the gateway to the KempenBroek. With various attractions in one area, visitors of all ages can easily fill a day out. The Nature and Environment Center De IJzeren Man is highly recommended. Together, you can explore nature by visiting the exhibition, the garden, or by getting hands-on in the activity square.
