Duinengordel - red - 10,1 km
This medium-length hike introduces you to the Commanderij Gruitrode. Through the vast woodlands, you reach the Oudsberg.
Extensive description CloseThe Commanderij Gruitrode was until 1801 one of the twelve commanderijs of the German Order that were subordinate to the land commander of Alden Biesen. The Commanderij consisted of a castle separated by moats and a farmstead.
Currently, the Commanderij Gruitrode is being restored in phases into a hotspot for culture and events. In addition, the site will serve as a gateway to Duinengordel, helping visitors navigate this northern part of the Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen.
The Oudsberg is a continental dune that rises 30 to 40 meters above the Kempens Plateau and is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forest. To reach the top, you need to climb a bit, but it is well worth the effort. At the top, you can enjoy a beautiful view over Duinengordel. If you face south, you look across the Bosbeekvallei towards the southern part of the Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen.
