Weerterbos - Hugterheide - brown - 5,1 km
The hiking area Weerterbos and Hughterheide is located in the north of the KempenBroek. The brown route in the Hugterheide runs mainly through coniferous woodland with the occasional deciduous tree.
Extensive description CloseThe coniferous forests were planted here to stop the drifting sand. Along the edges of the trails, you can see quite a few purple moor-grass and remnants of heathland. The woodland area lies on a sandy ridge that continues southwards towards the Weerter and Budelerbergen. Due to the management by Brabants Landschap – which is aiming for a summer oak-birch forest – the bird population has become richer with species such as goshawk, hobby, tawny owl, nuthatch, wood warbler, yellowhammer, crested tit, and coal tit.
