Stramprooierbroek - green - 3,3 km
The Stramprooierbroek is the heart of KempenBroek and also the quietest spot. The green hiking route takes you through ’t Hasselterbroek, a varied landscape with woodlands, meadows, reed beds, and thickets.
Extensive description CloseA large part of the woodland in ’t Hasselterbroek was planted with American oak. Regular logging is carried out here to give the original oak-birch woodland a chance to recover. Large herbivores such as Konik horses lend a helping hand. In the Stramprooierbroek itself, you will find wet marshes with alder and willow scrub, oak woodlands, meadows with wooded edges and ponds, stately oak avenues, and certainly the Abeek and Lossing.
The 'broek' was an inaccessible place for centuries. Several smuggling routes ran through it, and the broek and woodlands served as a hiding place for escaped prisoners of war during World War II. The wettest parts remained untouched by reclamation, so now you can enjoy the peace and space in one of the quietest spots in Limburg. The abundant presence of water makes the Stramprooierbroek and the adjoining nature reserves the richest dragonfly area in the Benelux. But for many plants, butterflies such as the large pearl-bordered fritillary, and other animals, the Stramprooierbroek is a paradise on earth. Plenty of reasons, then, to put on your boots and discover the treasures of this area.
