Stramprooierbroek - orange - 10,4 km
The Stramprooierbroek is the heart of KempenBroek and also the quietest spot. During this long route, you will discover wet marshes with alder and willow shrubbery, oak woodlands, meadows with wooded edges and ponds, stately oak avenues, and certainly also the Abeek and Lossing.
Extensive description CloseThe route continues to the Grootbroek, a woodland reserve of the Agency for Nature and Forest. This ‘broek’ was an inaccessible place for centuries. Several smuggling routes ran through it, and the broek and woodlands were a hideout for escaped prisoners of war during World War II. The wettest parts remained spared from cultivation, so you can now enjoy the peace and space in one of the quietest spots in Limburg. The abundant presence of water makes the Stramprooierbroek and the adjoining nature areas the richest dragonfly habitat in the Benelux. But also for many plants, butterflies such as the large map butterfly, and other animals, the Stramprooierbroek is a heaven on earth. Plenty of reasons, then, to put on your boots and discover the treasures of this area.
