Stokkem - orange - 7,0 km
The orange hiking loop runs through the green heart of RivierPark Maasvallei. This hike shows you how beautiful nature can be in an area where the Maas can do its thing.
Extensive description CloseYou hike through the nature reserve Negenoord-Kerkeweerd and past the hamlet Boyen. The nature reserve Negenoord covers 200 ha and is managed by Limburgs Landschap vzw. This former Maas floodplain has been transformed into a pond area through gravel extraction. Negenoord is a colorful and herb-rich mosaic landscape of grasslands, willow woodland, or floodplain forest. You will see many water birds there, as well as signs of beavers and large herbivores.
Be sure to also take the time to visit Visitor Center De Wissen. A free-to-visit exhibition about the Maas in all its facets tells you more about what you can see in the countryside. On the top floor of the Visitor Center, you get a beautiful view over Negenoord – Kerkeweerd.
