Station As - purple - 5,5 km
This short hike of 5.5 km takes you through the valley of the Bosbeek and the Kleine Beek. This area is cared for daily with great dedication by the volunteers of Natuurpunt.
Extensive description CloseThe Bosbeek springs at the border of As and Genk. Over a distance of 2.5 km, it forms the boundary between As and Opglabbeek, a sub-municipality of Oudsbergen. The Bosbeek then flows through Opoeteren and Neeroeteren to empty into the Maas in Aldeneik (near Maaseik). The Bosbeek has a steep gradient, which made it particularly suitable for watermills.
Where the valley of the Kleine Beek joins the Bosbeekvallei, we find ourselves in the heart of the nature reserve of the Bosbeekvallei. Volunteers from the local Natuurpunt departments As, Maasland-Noord, and Opglabbeek dedicate themselves selflessly to preserving this landscape with rare plants and animals, restoring it where necessary, and managing it daily.
