Station As - orange - 15,5 km
This 14.7 km hike starts from Camping Wilhelm Tell. You hike along the Bosbeekvallei, the Rouwmortelsven, and a semi-open small-scale agricultural landscape.
Extensive description CloseThe hike takes you to the Bosbeekvallei. The Bosbeek originates on the border of As and Genk. Over a distance of 2.5 km, it forms the boundary between As and Opglabbeek, a district of Oudsbergen. The Bosbeek then flows through Opoeteren and Neeroeteren to empty into the Maas in Aldeneik (near Maaseik). The Bosbeek has a significant gradient, which made it particularly suitable for watermills. The Theunissenmolen is one of the 12 mills on the Bosbeek.
You also pass by the Rouwmortelven. This beautiful heathland pond is a chosen spot for plants of the ‘wet heathland’: cotton grass, cross-leaved heath, and the carnivorous sundew. It is a habitat for dragonflies and amphibians, including some very rare species (moor frog, pygmy salamander, fen emerald dragonfly).
