Munsterbos - blue - 6,2 km
This blue route takes you past the Jonckholt castle ruin and Groenendaal Castle.
Extensive description CloseYou start at the church of Hoelbeek.
Well hidden in the wooded surroundings of Hoelbeek lies the ruins of the fort of Jonckholt. What remains of this post-medieval fortification are the four clearly recognizable corner towers that formed the defensive line and the unique double moat system.
You also hike through the Groenendaal estate woodland, an old deciduous forest with common ash, European bird cherry, and spring flowers such as wood anemone and cowslip. But you also pass Kempian oak-birch woods with liverwort, lily of the valley, and who knows, you might even spot the middle spotted woodpecker.
