Mechelse Heide - red - 7,3 km
This red hike combines all the beauty of the Mechelse Heide!
Extensive description CloseThe long red hiking trail combines all the beauty of this area: you hike through the heathland and woodland, through the former sand and gravel quarry. This hike is especially suitable for those hiking with their four-legged friend. During the hike itself, dogs must be on a leash, but along this route, you also pass a large off-leash area where dogs and owners can let loose.
The red loop trail is mostly unpaved and hilly and takes you through the heathland to the pond beneath the hill. This pond is almost completely overgrown with peat mosses. They retain water like a sponge. This not only provides a beautiful view but also forms a habitat for special plants. The peat carpet is very fragile. So do not step on it, as it takes years to recover.
