Vallei van de Bosbeek - red - 7,3 km
The Bosbeek, also known as the Oeterbeek, springs from the Kempens Plateau and after quite a large descent reaches the Vlakte van Bocholt. The red route shows you the agricultural landscape around Wurfeld Castle.
Extensive description CloseOnce you cross the Bosbeek, you enter the wetter landscape of the Tösch. This reserve is managed by Limburgs Landschap vzw. In this wilder landscape, konik horses and Scottish Highland cattle roam. In Wurfeld, the Bosbeek forms the natural boundary between two contrasting landscapes. In the Tösch, you are surprised by a touch of wildness on a small scale in a marshy environment with broekbossen, ponds, rough areas, and thickets. On the northern side of the winding Bosbeek lies the Langeren area. Here, fields and meadows mainly determine the view. You will find a treasure of kleine landschapselementen such as hedgerows and wooded edges over 100 years old. Along this stream, numerous watermolens are still present, such as the Klaaskensmolen in Neeroeteren, the last still functioning saw watermill in Flanders, and the Wurfeldermolen in Wurfeld.
