Vallei van de Bosbeek - blue - 9,5 km
The Bosbeek, also known as the Oeterbeek, originates on the Kempens Plateau and, after a considerable drop, reaches the Vlakte van Bocholt. The stream passes under the Zuid-Willemsvaart and thus reaches Neeroeteren.
Extensive description CloseThis blue hiking trail is a surprisingly diverse route where woodland and marsh alternate. You cross the Zanderbeek and hike past small streams along the way. Further on in the hiking area, you will find Wurfeld where the Bosbeek forms the natural boundary between two contrasting landscapes. In the Tösch, you are surprised by a small-scale wilderness in a marshy environment with floodplain forests, ponds, rough grasslands, and thickets. On the northern side of the winding Bosbeek lies the Langeren area. Here, fields and meadows mainly shape the view. You will find a wealth of small landscape features such as hedgerows and wooded edges over 100 years old. Along this stream, many watermills are still present, such as the Klaaskensmolen in Neeroeteren, the last still operating saw watermill in Flanders, and the Wurfeldermolen in Wurfeld.
