The Bosbeek, also known as the Oeterbeek, originates on the Kempens Plateau and, after a considerable descent, reaches the Vlakte van Bocholt. The stream flows under the Zuid-Willemsvaart and then reaches Neeroeteren, after which it moves rather slowly through the flat landscape. In Wurfeld, the Bosbeek forms the natural boundary between two contrasting landscapes. In the Tösch, you are surprised by a patch of wildness on a small scale in a marshy environment with broekbos, ponds, rough grass, and shrubs. On the northern side of the winding Bosbeek lies the Langeren area. Here, fields and meadows mainly define the view. You will find a wealth of small landscape features such as hedgerows and wooded edges over 100 years old. Numerous watermills are still present on this stream, such as the Klaaskensmolen in Neeroeteren, the last working saw watermill in Flanders, and the Wurfeldermolen in Wurfeld. On the hiking map, you will find more information about the hiking routes and the sights in the area.
