Extensive description Close

The blue route takes you to the most beautiful spots of the Sahara, the perfect children's hiking route. From De Soeverein, follow the brown crosses (630 m) to reach the start of the blue route in the Sahara.

This hike offers plenty of variety for young and old. Hiking in the Sahara feels like an adventure in the desert. Not without reason, this route was voted the most beautiful hike in the country in 2018!

The large, bright blue pond appears like a mirage in the sandplain and attracts numerous waterfowl. The surrounding coniferous forests and some architectural highlights make this hike extra special. Be sure to climb the unique lookout tower for a beautiful view over Nationaal Park Bosland.

For children, there is a mysterious play area with natural play elements made from willow branches by artist Will Beckers.

Our tips:

  • Bring a picnic and have lunch at the playful picnic tables. Zeno the Sand Beetle takes the children on a discovery tour in the sand!
  • Between March 15 and October 15, you can borrow a free hammock at the counter of the event hall De Soeverein: hang it from a tree and relax! Experience a day full of adventure and discover the magic of the Sahara!
