The yellow hiking route takes you through the valley and over the highest point of Hasselt. In winter or after heavy rainfall, the trails can be slippery and muddy. Sturdy footwear or boots are recommended.
Extensive description CloseThe Mombeek forms the winding border between Alken and Hasselt. At the lowest point of the valley, the old Mombeek flows parallel to its bigger brother. The wetter character of this valley has historically made it difficult to access. You couldn't build houses there, and modern agriculture also left the valley as it was. Today, it is a blue-green oasis in the fertile Haspengouw field and meadow landscape.
