Maasdal hiking route - theme - 5,6 km
With this Ommetje Maasdal, you discover the Roosteren area. It is a floodplain grazed by konik horses. From the bank of the fast-flowing Maas, you have a view of the Belgian Maaseik.
Extensive description CloseBeautiful nature and especially many beautiful views. These are the main features of this 5.6 km hike through the primeval floodplain of the Maas. A beautiful, largely car-free hike through the water extraction area De Rug.
The route also takes you through the small but charming village of Roosteren, where you can still find some well-preserved Maasland farmsteads. The village of Visserweert – an island in the Maas – is also one of the highlights of this route.
Ommetje Maasdal is located in The Narrowest Part of the Netherlands. You are thus not only just a stone's throw from Belgium (Maaseik) but also from Germany! Moreover, thanks to the node system of the municipality of Echt-Susteren, you can make your hike as long as you like. Now that’s truly borderless hiking!
