Extensive description Close

Beautiful nature and especially many beautiful views. These are the main features of this 5.6 km hike through the primeval floodplain of the Maas. A beautiful, largely car-free hike through the water extraction area De Rug.

The route also takes you through the small but charming village of Roosteren, where you can still find some well-preserved Maasland farmsteads. The village of Visserweert – an island in the Maas – is also one of the highlights of this route.

Ommetje Maasdal is located in The Narrowest Part of the Netherlands. You are thus not only just a stone's throw from Belgium (Maaseik) but also from Germany! Moreover, thanks to the node system of the municipality of Echt-Susteren, you can make your hike as long as you like. Now that’s truly borderless hiking!
