Herkenrodebossen - red arrow - 6,5 km
The red loop takes you through a varied landscape of fields, meadows, and woodlands. In winter or after heavy rain, the trails can be slippery and muddy. Sturdy footwear or boots are recommended.
Extensive description CloseFor a long time, the Herkenrodebossen were one of Hasselt's best-kept secrets. This area used to be owned by the abbey of Herkenrode, hence the name. Now hikers can enjoy this patchwork of old and young woodland, fields, and meadows. Landscape features such as hedges, wooded edges, pollarded trees, and ponds add extra variety. The Agency for Nature and Forest ensures suitable management. In spring, the spring flowers emerge from the ground. In autumn, the lush summer greenery turns into warm autumn colors. Children and young people can enjoy themselves in the large natural play area.
