From the center of Wellen, you hike straight into the Grote Beemd via a number of neighborhood paths. These used to be common meadows where you could let your cattle graze for a fee after the hay was cut in the summer.
Extensive description CloseLimburgs Landschap vzw ensures appropriate management of the Herkbeemden, with the help of enthusiastic volunteers from the local nature association 't Bokje. Ponds and swamp woodlands provide extra life in the mix. Waterproof shoes are recommended, even during dry periods.
