Grootloon - yellow rectangle - 13,0 km
This varied hike takes you through meadows and orchards and over the Roman cobblestone road to the village of Grootloon. If you want a really challenging hike, you can join the red trail halfway to the castle village of Heks.
Extensive description CloseBorgloon, once the headquarters of the counts of Loon, is surrounded by orchards, including quite a few tall-stemmed ones. You’ll also find rolling fields and wooded ridges here. One moment you’re hiking through medieval alleys and over the former city walls, the next an endless landscape unfolds before you. Let yourself be enchanted by the village of Grootloon with its authentic surroundings. Few places in Haspengouw are as richly textured. Along the way, you enjoy wide-ranging views. The fact that the Romans already appreciated this place becomes clear when you hike in their sandal tracks along the route of the Roman Kassei.
All hikes pass by the ‘see-through chapel’ - Reading between the lines by the architectural duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh.
