Dorplein - Boshoverheide - yellow - 9,2 km
This route leads you from Boshoven along fields, through woodlands and over the heathland. You pass the Van Hornehoeve and come past Roompot holiday park Weerterbergen.
Extensive description CloseThe village was designed by Emiel Dor in the same Walloon architectural style as in the Belgian Borinage. It was recognized as a ‘protected village view’ and has largely remained authentic. The Loozerheide, between Weert and Budel-Dorplein, which is also part of this hiking area, was originally a largely wet area with humid heathland and ponds. Over the centuries, the area was drained to make it suitable for agriculture. ARK Rewilding Netherlands and Natuurmonumenten worked together to restore it as a wet nature area. The Loozerheide is grazed by Exmoor ponies and cattle. They create a great variety in high and low vegetation. Boshoverheide, on the other hand, is a dry area consisting of drifting sands, coniferous forests, and dry heathland. Very unique is that you can find the largest burial mound field in Northwest Europe here.
