Dorplein - Boshoverheide - black - 1,9 km
This route takes you straight through the urn field of the Boshoverheide, with no less than 356 burial mounds and an area of 30 ha, the largest prehistoric urn field in Northwest Europe. You hike on paved paths along drifting sand and heathland.
Extensive description CloseBudel Dorplein, the Weerter- and Budelerbergen and the Loozerheide are also part of this hiking area. Budel Dorplein was designed by Emiel Dor in the same Walloon architectural style as in the Belgian Borinage. The village was designated as a ‘protected village view’ and has largely remained authentic. The Loozerheide, between Weert and Budel-Dorplein, was originally a largely wet area with humid heathland and ponds. Over the centuries, the area was drained to make it suitable for agriculture. ARK Rewilding Netherlands and Natuurmonumenten jointly ensured that it became a wet nature reserve again. The Loozerheide is grazed by Exmoor ponies and cattle. They create a wide variety of tall and low vegetation.
