Dorplein - Boshoverheide - orange - 8,8 km
The orange route takes you through the Weerter- and Budelerbergen. It is a varied hike with woodland, heathland, and drifting sand. Occasionally, you have to hike firmly through the loose sand.
Extensive description CloseBudel Dorplein, the Boshoverheide and the Loozerheide are also part of this hiking area. Budel Dorplein was designed by Emiel Dor in the same Walloon architectural style as in the Belgian Borinage. The village was recognized as a ‘protected village view’ and has largely remained authentic. The Loozerheide, located between Weert and Budel-Dorplein, was originally a mostly wet area with humid heathland and ponds. Over the centuries, the area was drained to make it suitable for agriculture. ARK Rewilding Nederland and Natuurmonumenten worked together to restore it as a wet nature reserve. The Loozerheide is grazed by Exmoor ponies and cattle. They ensure a great variety of tall and low vegetation. The Boshoverheide, on the other hand, is a dry area consisting of drifting sands, coniferous forests, and dry heathland. Very unique is that you can find the largest burial mound field in Northwest Europe here.
