It is the perfect area for bird lovers, as the ponds are breeding grounds for many water and songbirds. The Augustijnenvijver is, in turn, a resting place for numerous birds during migration. This hike is the ideal route to get to know de Maten and its beautiful ponds.
After prolonged wet periods, the path through the sheep meadow is often underwater. We recommend choosing a different starting point/route in the hiking area De Maten during wet periods.
