Bergerven - blue - 4,9 km
Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen
This short route introduces you to the Bosbeekvallei from the village of Opoeteren.
Extensive description CloseThe Bosbeek originates in As, flows through the villages of Opoeteren and Neeroeteren, and after 22 km flows into the Maas near Aldeneik (Maaseik). Over that short distance, it has a drop of 50 meters, making it suitable for the construction of watermills: 16 in total. The valley cuts deep through the Kempens Plateau and virtually divides it in two. Natuurpunt is developing a nature reserve here from source to mouth through the purchase and proper management of dozens of abandoned plots.
