Berg - red arrow - 6,1 km
This hike takes you on a discovery journey through a number of beautiful holloways. Due to the clayey subsoil, this hike is very muddy during wet periods. Suitable footwear is therefore a must.
Extensive description CloseSince the Middle Ages, farmers have been traveling with horse and cart from the farmstead in the valley to the fields on the plateau. Centuries of using the same path led to a natural erosion process. Loosened soil was washed away with the rainwater, causing the path to deepen year after year.
These holloways are of great importance to plants and animals today. Amidst vast fields, they serve as natural connections between woodlands and other fragmented pieces of nature. In Flanders, such a strikingly high density of holloways is found only in South Limburg. They are characteristic of Haspengouw and Voeren.
