Millen is the prime example of a typical Haspengouw agricultural village, located on the fertile loam plateau. Until far into the 20th century, agriculture was the sole source of income. A belt of tall-stemmed orchards surrounded the village like a protective band in the 19th and 20th centuries. These orchards were ideal grazing areas for the livestock. Old holloways connect the monumental farmsteads with the fields located higher up. In Millen, you will find more than 40 farmsteads, of which about 30 have since been repurposed. Such a compact village core surrounded by orchards and fields is characteristic of dry Haspengouw. The open landscape guarantees stunning panoramas.
