Make it a slow, romantic day and start with a homemade breakfast at De Pastorie in Zammelen, where the social enterprise De Wroeter ensures a warm welcome.

The birds in De Wijers are also slowly feeling the spring in the air and are looking for a partner. Reflecting Together in the Weerterbos
The Weerterbos and the Hugterheide are located in the north of KempenBroek and together form a surprisingly varied hiking area. You hike through old, damp deciduous woodlands, past quiet ponds and small heathland areas.
This red route takes you through the heart of the Weerterbos. Along the way, you climb an impressive lookout tower with views of the habitat of red deer. Ten kilometers: long enough to really be together on the trail, short enough to keep enjoying. The yellow hiking loop through Aldeneik, Maaseik and Heppeneert is made for two. You hike along the Meuse, through open landscapes and quiet villages where you naturally link arms. Halfway you light a candle together in Heppeneert. Just a stone's throw from the route you will find the new artwork by Adrien Tirtiaux in Maaseik.

The blue hiking route of 5 km from Toegangspoort Mechelse Heide leads you to the highest natural point of Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen: a panoramic spot where you have beautiful views. You do have to climb quite a bit, but admit it, what is more romantic than starting the day with a beautiful sunrise? Enjoy views as far as the Netherlands and on clear days even to Germany and the Hoge Venen. Then you continue hiking through the heathland with a nice view of the former sand quarry.
