Sahara - red - 11,2 km
A top hike for avid hikers, taking you past one of the most beautiful, unexpected landscapes of the Lower Kempen. A pond emerging from the woodland, a lookout tower offering a phenomenal view, an architecturally impressive hiking bridge over the canal, a beautiful heathland ...
Extensive description CloseAnyone hiking here feels like they are in the desert... The Sahara was rightly chosen as the most beautiful hike in the country in 2018! The large, bright blue waterplas appears like a mirage in the sandy plain.
The fresh water attracts plenty of waterfowl. The surrounding coniferous woodlands and some architectural highlights nearby make this a very special hike. Be sure to climb the unique lookout tower for a beautiful view over Nationaal Park Bosland.
For children, there is a mysterious play area with natural play elements made of willow branches, created by artist Will Beckers.
Our tips:
- Bring a picnic and lunch at the playful picnic tables. Zeno the Sand Dune Beetle takes children on a discovery tour in the sand!
- Between March 15 and October 15, you can borrow a free hammock at the counter of the event hall De Soeverein: hang it on a tree and just relax!
- Tip for children! Looking for the treasure of King Lion, this hike is freely accessible. You can choose between a short route of 3.5 km suitable for strollers or the longer adventure route of 7.8 km. The treasure hike starts at the gravel parking Lossingsweg (near the canal). More information about King Lion can be found on the website of www.visitlommel.be.
