Paal - red - 13,7 km
This robust red route (with some inclines) takes you from the village center through a varied landscape on the edge of the Zwarte Beek: holloways, panoramas, agricultural fields, pollarded oaks … You will encounter it all.
Extensive description CloseThe red route starts in the center of Paal and leads you along quiet village streets to the edge of the Valley of the Zwarte Beek. During your hike, you will discover some typical regional features such as holloways – with their characteristic vegetation – and witness hills. Be sure to enjoy the views from the hills.
Along the way, you pass the Gestelse Molen. This is an old watermill on the Zwarte Beek (currently privately owned). Here you can briefly deviate from the route to take a look at a part of the Valley of the Zwarte Beek that is managed here by Natuurpunt.
The route does not run through a nature reserve, so you will encounter paved roads slightly more often than in our other hiking areas. These are usually quiet back roads.
You can extend your hike at the Langheidestraat with the hiking routes over the Venusberg, for a more extensive experience of the witness hills.
General info: the Paal region is an extension of the Hageland, where holloways and hills shape the landscape.
