The Romans already knew it: the Haspengouw soil is the best in Flanders. The fertile loam layer brought wealth, which you can see in the impressive farmsteads along this hike. This design offers residents safety and a good view over their property. Even today, behind many of these gates there is a buzz of activity. Some still operate as farms, while in other farmsteads you can experience the Haspengouw farming life through farm tourism, or attend parties, meetings, or workshops.
