Koersels Kapelleke - red - 6,9 km
The red route lets you enjoy the unique nature in the Vallei van de Zwarte Beek. The route partly runs through the military domain and is only accessible on weekends and public holidays.
Extensive description CloseDiscover on this hike the unique vegetation in the Vallei van de Zwarte Beek. The valley consists of a peat layer up to 6 meters thick. In spring, you can enjoy spring flowers such as wood anemone and lesser celandine here, but also marsh plants like mare's tail appreciate this moist spot. Natuurpunt has installed boardwalks in the wettest areas so you can cross the valley with dry feet. In wet periods, boots are still recommended!
Koersels Kapelleke is the ideal outing for families with small children. Let them play to their heart's content in the playground in the middle of the woodland. Or climb the nearly 30-meter-high tower, which offers a beautiful view over the Kempense landscape. You continue hiking among the trees or across the heathland. Be sure to end your hike at the Bezoekerscentrum De Watersnip, where you can get to know the flora and fauna of the Vallei van de Zwarte Beek in a fun and playful way. Of course, a pancake or ice cream in one of the hospitality venues should not be missed!
