Altweerterheide - black - 13,9 km
Altweerterheide, a village of Weert, is surrounded by a beautiful mix of fertile fields, lush grasslands, and nature reserves such as the Tungelerwallen. With this route, you hike through the agricultural landscape of Weert towards Tungelroy.
Extensive description CloseThis long hike connects several hiking areas. You combine the Annamolen and the historic Dijkerakker with the Moeselpeel and the village of Tungelroy with the Roman bridge over the Tungelroyse Beek. At a five-way junction (Telheidestraat), you see the large stone cross (1965) in memory of Frans Linssen from ‘Maaseyk’. This used to be the trade route between Weert and Maaseik. Frans had just sold his goods in Weert and was hiking home towards Maaseik when he was murdered in 1765.
