Note: The informational text on this map is in Dutch, but the map itself can be used without issue.
Altweerterheide is a young village in the municipality of Weert. Its name derives from the woodland, marsh, and heathland in the southwest of Weert. Alt means old, Weerter comes from the city of Weert, and heide from the heathlands; literally translated, it is therefore Oudeweertseheide. The village is surrounded by a beautiful mix of fertile fields, lush grasslands, and nature reserves, including the Laurabossen, the IJzeren Man, and the Tungelerwallen. Near Keent, you will find many charactaristic farmsteads and the remains of a fort. In the area of the Dijkerakker, traces of settlements from the Bronze Age, early Iron Age, and Roman period have been found. Moreover, due to a special plowing method, the slightly rounded, so-called kransakker has emerged.
