Aldeneik - green - 2,7 km
The green loop in the hiking area Aldeneik offers you a short hike around the Heerenlaak pond and through the charming center of Aldeneik. Easy to do with a stroller, so ideal for a hike with the family.
Extensive description CloseThis is the smallest loop of the hiking area Aldeneik. During this hike, you will get to know the marvelous past of this charming Maas village. Street names, buildings, and monuments take you back to the time when Harlindis and Relindis, daughters of Aderhard and Grinnara, performed various miracles. They founded a convent community here and received visits from the missionary bishop Willibrordus. In 870, Harlindis and Relindis were declared saints. Their relics are still venerated and celebrated today, including a procession that takes place every 25 years through the streets of Maaseik and Aldeneik.
The hike also leads you around the Heerenlaakplas. Until 2002, gravel was extracted here. Afterwards, the area was redeveloped with two campsites, a marina, and a sandy beach. Here you can also see the Bosbeek, which flows into the Maas.
