Anyone who thinks of the Maas village Aldeneik spontaneously thinks of the many legends about the holy Harlindis and Relindis. Or of the delicious wine from Wijndomein Aldeneyck, which has won international awards multiple times. But Aldeneik is more. This hiking area is also a popular spot for water recreation enthusiasts, known both nationally and internationally. The blue route takes you past the harbor, a beach, and several Maas lakes... Here it almost feels like you are already on vacation.

Extensive description Close

From the starting point, it is immediately clear: the Meuse dominates this diverse hiking area. Water is everywhere. On one side flows the Meuse and right next to the parking is a large Meuse pond. The Bosbeek also appears here before it flows into the Meuse.
Already in 2002, the extraction in this area ‘Heerenlaak’ was completed and the area was redesigned. On a peninsula, two campsites and a marina with a sandy beach were created. Coming from the south, a land tongue with two historical farmsteads and a piece of agricultural land were preserved (‘Klauwenhof’ and ‘Dillenhof’).

After a few hundred meters on your hike, you cross a bridge. Be sure to look down, this is the Bosbeek. This stream originates in Waterschei (Genk) and after a 26 km long journey it flows into the Meuse here in Aldeneik. It is one of the cleanest streams in Flanders.

If you follow the blue loop to the domain of the harbor, you can, at the height of the campsite, descend to the beach via a wooden stairway. This little beach is very popular in summer with the guests of the harbor and campsite. Sun, water, beach… Here you get an instant holiday feeling. And via a recently built stairway, you as a hiker can also enjoy it.
