The area Lozen along the Zuid-Willemsvaart, adjacent to Dutch territory, has carried the name ‘De Kempen’ for over 80 years. The hiking area ‘De Kempen’ has much to offer for lovers of open landscapes. The routes take you past fields, meadows, and active farms: both large-scale and charmingly small-scale, occasionally still bordered by remarkable wooded edges. Some meadows are an invitation for rare meadow birds such as curlew and black-tailed godwit. In various places, you can still see remnants of the former swamp in the form of wet oak, birch, and alder carr woods. The Zuid-Willemsvaart is a striking landmark in the landscape that borders the area on the north side.
