The Willemsroute is a recreational boating route that connects Maastricht with Weert. The route is part of a circular cruise: from Maastricht, tour boaters can travel through Belgian Limburg to Weert, and via the Kanaal Wessem-Nederweert, the Maasplassen, and the Julianakanaal on Dutch territory, return to Maastricht (or vice versa). The loop is an easy, multi-day route of about 110 km that is also suitable for the beginner skipper. The boating route has low banks, offering a beautiful view of the very diverse surroundings and the three areas KempenBroek, RivierPark Maasvallei, and Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen. The Belgian part of the Zuid-Willemsvaart is by far the most beautiful section of the route, with locks with a small drop and little commercial traffic.
