The unfinished Fort Jonckholt
Jonckholt
Haspengouw
In the middle of the woodlands of Hoelbeek, a sub-municipality of Bilzen, lies a mysterious structure: the fort of Jonckholt. It looks like the ruins of a castle, but it probably is not: historians suspect that it is an unfinished fort. That Jonckholt had an important military function is evident from the archaeological finds: in addition to pottery, coins, and a wooden tub from the 16th century, mainly armor fragments, swords, and lances were uncovered.
