The old fruit trail

The old fruit trail is the nickname for railway line 23, which was built in 1879 between Sint-Truiden and Tongeren and was mainly used to transport fruit and sugar beets. The Stationsplein, located slightly further north near the syrup factory in Borgloon, was an important transshipment point. From here, the fruit was further distributed to the large syrup distilleries or the apple cider trade. In the seventies, the tracks along the entire line were removed. However, the route is still clearly visible. Sometimes it stands high above the landscape, other times it dips below it. For many animals, it is an important connection between small nature relics.
