THE FLYING PIG, STAYING WITH AN ARTIST!
The Flying Pig is a small sleeping house with an art studio located in a long-front farmstead from 1850, surrounded by a 6000m2 garden.
Hidden in the greenery on the edge of Genk, bordering the Schemmersberg-Zonhoverheide nature reserve, you are here away from everything while all the sights of Genk are still close by.
The sleeping house is the original farmer’s residence of the farmstead, and you have it all to yourself—there are no other guests in the house. There is a separate entrance, a cozy kitchen-living area, a living room, and a toilet on the ground floor. On the first floor, you’ll find 3 spacious bedrooms and the bathroom. It can accommodate 6 people. At The Flying Pig, everything is as ecological and organic as possible and low-waste. I bake the bread myself, and the eggs are laid by our chickens. In the garden, you may pick herbs yourself, and the lettuce grows in the vegetable patch.
My studio is in the barn. Here you can take fun workshops or watch me at work. In the rear part of the farmstead are my private rooms.
The floors creak in the house, and the staircase is steep—just as it should be in an old farmstead. The garden is a bit wild, but you can happily daydream in a hammock or enjoy the peace on your own terrace, surrounded by flowers and bees. A TV and wifi are missing, but in return, you get a friendly hostess who is always ready for a chat and a cupboard full of games and books.
In summary, The Flying Pig stands for nature, creativity, genuine Limburg-Irish hospitality, and tranquility—getting back to basics. It is a place to catch your breath, truly away from everything, and to enjoy all the beauty that nature has to offer.
