Castle Nieuwenhoven
Nieuwenhoven
Haspengouw
After a donation to the Benedictines of Sint-Truiden in 976, castle Nieuwenhoven experienced a turbulent history of renovations and shifts in power. After the upheavals of the French Revolution, the estate came into private hands. In the 19th century, an English landscape park was laid out around the castle. In 1932, a fire destroyed a large part of the castle, after which it was rebuilt in a neoclassical style. The estate woodlands have been owned by the province of Limburg since the 1970s. The castle itself remained in private hands.
