Extensive description CloseThis route runs partly along the Kettingdijk. You hike along an open marshland and field landscapes. Did you know that the Smeetshof used to be part of a 5,000-hectare border marsh together with the Dutch Wijffelterbroek? The landscape was largely reclaimed at the end of the last century. In 2003, restoration of the marsh began. The Smeetshof nature development project created new marsh areas, heathland restoration, ponds with amphibians, and wet and dry grasslands with scattered woodlands. Vantage points, bird hides, and boardwalks offer you a unique view of this surprising part of KempenBroek. You hike between Belgium and the Netherlands, among woodlands, marshes, meadows, and streams.
