An adventurous route right through the former Cement Quarry. You pass a vantage point with a spectacular view of the quarry.

Extensive description Close

South of Maastricht, between Jeker and Maas, rises the Sint-Pietersberg. The excavation of marl created a labyrinth of underground tunnels and took a large part out of the hill. Thousands of bats hibernate in the tunnels.
In 1926, the Province of Limburg granted a concession to the Eerste Nederlandse Cement Industrie (ENCI) for the exploitation of a quarry. The limestone extracted here is the main raw material for cement.

The quarry is about 135 ha in size. Many geologists can indulge their passion here. You will find fossils from the Cretaceous, a period from 65 million years ago.
