Picturesque church villages - Piringen/Beukenberg - red - 9,2 km
Explore the Roman aqueduct of Tongeren and hike past stately castles and nature-rich valleys.
Extensive description CloseThe Romans left their mark not only on the Tongeren city center. Also in the wider area, you can still find remnants in the landscape from Roman times. An apparently natural ridge (the Beukenberg) that you hike over is a monumental earthwork that was part of the aqueduct that supplied the Roman city of Tongeren with water. You pass a Roman burial mound and remaining parts of the city walls from the 2nd century. Furthermore, the Betho castle estate is on the itinerary and you hike through characteristic Haspengouw landscapes with rolling fields, meadows, orchards, and holloways.
