Kessenich and the Drie Eigen - purple - 6,7 km
The purple loop in the hiking area Kessenich and the Drie Eigen immediately puts you in a holiday mood. The rural surroundings of Ophoven and Geistingen are combined with a large Maas lake where recreational boating and water sports are possible.
Extensive description CloseYou start your hike at the parking near marina De Spaanjerd. In the summer months, this is a popular spot thanks to the campsite, water sports opportunities, the restaurant, and the ferry a little further on. The hiking route quickly leads you to quieter places, such as the rose village Geistingen. A picturesque Maas village with charming streets and a few beautiful chapels. Be sure to take time to admire the recently restored burial chapel of Bishop Rutten in the cemetery.
The hike shows you the fields and open land between Geistingen and Kessenich. The Bastion, an event square by the water in Kessenich, is worth a stop to enjoy the view over the Maasplassen. Further on, you hike past Agropolis, the agricultural business park where innovative companies in agriculture and horticulture have every chance to grow.
Hiking this route in summer? Be sure to bring a sun hat. Along the banks of the Maas, there is little shade to be found here.
