Extensive description CloseLet yourself be surprised by the green route, also known as the butterfly hiking trail! This route is fully accessible for wheelchair users and strollers. The semi-paved path winds through the pine woodland and offers a beautiful mix of pine woodlands, a serene pond, and a stunning piece of heathland. The butterfly hiking trail features several educational and fun play areas where young and old can learn about the life of the butterfly through play.
Kattenbos is a unique part of Lommel, rich in pine woodlands that gradually evolve into deciduous woodland. In the heart of this area lies the 'Kattenbosser Heide', one of the most beautiful heathland areas of Bosland, where the rare and mysterious nightjar breeds.
Just a stone’s throw from the starting point stands the Leyssensmolen, a beautiful flour mill from 1797 that was recently restored. You can visit this mill for free on every first Sunday and third Saturday of the month between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
For children, there is an adventurous play area hidden among the trees, with play elements created by willow artist Will Beckers. You can find this play area between nodes 146 and 147. In Kattenbos, you experience a unique mix of nature, adventure, and educational moments!
