Bergerven - green - 3,2 km
This short hike introduces you to the Bosbeekvallei from the village of Opoeteren. The route is mostly paved, making it suitable for wheelchair users when followed counterclockwise.
Extensive description CloseThe Bosbeek springs in As, flows through the villages of Opoeteren and Neeroeteren, and 22 km further on at Aldeneik (Maaseik) flows into the Maas. Over this short distance, it has a drop of 50 meters, which made it suitable for the construction of watermills: a total of 16 were built.
Just behind the church of Opoeteren, you can still find the Dorpermolen, a watermill from 1530, the oldest building in Opoeteren.
The valley cuts deep through the Kempens Plateau and practically divides it in two. Natuurpunt is developing a nature reserve here from source to mouth through the purchase and appropriate management of dozens of abandoned plots.
